Piota - Self Management Support App for Asthma patients

Stonehaven Medical Group now has access to an app that can be used to help patients with asthma in the practice.

The application has many potential benefits for patients with asthma through improving and promoting self-management. Self-management of a long term condition such as asthma can make a big difference to patient well-being. Evidence shows that patients who self-manage their asthma have less symptoms, less days off work or school, less flare ups of their asthma (asthma attacks) and have a lower risk of admission to hospital because of their asthma.

Self-management is what all patients with asthma have to do on a daily basis. Most patients with asthma have only a handful of contacts with the surgery about their asthma on an annual basis. This means that for the other 360+ days of the year you are self-managing your asthma. Any specific guidance or training or advice that you might be given at your asthma appointment can be easily forgotten and this App is designed to try and help.

The App will be updated regularly with helpful hints and tips on how to self-manage your asthma and will contain guidance and information put on by the practice as well as links and references to other patient support services such as Asthma UK.

We recognise that not all patients will have access to computers or the internet and so we would also be happy for parents or relatives to access this service on their behalf.

To access the App please follow the steps below.

  • Go to the usual place that you download Apps (e.g. App store for Apple devices, Google Play for Android devices)
  • Search for Piota – Deeper Engagement and download & install

  • Open Piota App and search for Stonehaven Medical Group

We hope that many of you will find this a helpful and informative App and that you will gain more confidence going forward in looking after your asthma and your own health and we look forward to hearing about your experience in the future

If you have any queries about the App then please get in touch via the surgery.
