Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the receptionist need to know why I need an appointment with the doctor or nurse?

The receptionist needs to know why you are needing the appointment so they can book you into an appropriate time and length of consultation, with the appropriate person.  This is so you can get treatment quickly and effectively.

I’m worried about telling the receptionist about my problem, as it is very private

All of our staff are bound by rules of confidentiality and your information will be kept in the strictest confidence.

I live in a different area but need medical help whilst I’m in Stonehaven

You can register with us as a temporary resident to receive medical care whilst you’re here.  You can continue to be a temporary resident for up to 3 months.  After that, you would need to fully register.  The same applies for our patients who are outside Stonehaven but needing medical assistance.

Why do I need an appointment to get certain repeat prescriptions?

We need to monitor all repeat prescriptions to ensure safety and that they are the best medication for you

Why does the receptionist need to know why I need a home visit?

The receptionist needs to know why you are needing the home visit so that they can ensure that the correct person visits you – doctor or nurse, and to help the doctor prioritise the calls in terms of urgency

Why can’t I make an appointment to get blood taken late in the afternoon?

Our blood samples are picked up and taken to Aberdeen each day in the afternoon-  after this time, we would be unable to get it sent and it would “go off” waiting till the following day.

What kind of appointments are available?

There is a wide variety of appointment types with different people.  We advise contacting reception who can guide you to an appropriate appointment.  Please note though that we do offer telephone consultations with doctors each day for booking

Why is it so difficult to contact you on the telephone in the mornings?

Unfortunately most people try to contact us first thing in the mornings!  Help us and avoid long waits on the phone by contacting us for routine matters like routine appointments or test results by contacting us in the afternoon

Why do I need to book in when I arrive?

We need to know you have arrived!  To help speed up the process we now have a screen on the wall (on the right hand side when you arrive) that you can book yourself in with. Of course, if you prefer, you can still book in as normal at reception. Please note that if you arrive more than 10 minutes late for an appointment, you might be asked to rebook it for another time.
