The Importance of Attending your Diabetic Review

Diabetics benefit from regular checks on their health. We like to ensure that
we offer you the best of care. This includes regular checks on your sugar
levels, blood pressure, weight, cholesterol level and or protein from your
kidneys. It is also sensible to review your diet and foot care.

Please contact the surgery to make an appointment for your bloods and foot
check. If possible, we ask that you arrive early for your appointment and
use the surgery pod to record your weight and blood pressure. Please bring
a sample of urine along to this appointment. Your results will then be
reviewed by a GP specialising in diabetes.

We will be in contact after your bloods appointment to let you know what
happens next. If, after review of you results, the GP determines that there is
no need for a face to face appointment you will be sent out a summary sheet
of your results for your information. If no face to face review is required this
will generally indicate that your results are stable and no new issues have
been identified.

My Diabetes My Way

The NHS Scotland interactive diabetes website to help support people who have diabetes and their family and friends.

You’ll find leaflets, videos, educational tools and games containing information about diabetes. You can now also use this website to view your own up-to-date diabetes clinic results, to help you manage your condition more effectively.

Specialist care

If there is a particular problem identified with your diabetes care that we cannot help you within the practice, then we will refer you to a specialist service.

Arranging or changing your DRS appointment

Most health boards have a diabetic retinopathy screening (DRS) service that can arrange appointments and answer any questions or problems you might have.

When you receive your DRS invitation letter you might need to contact your local service to arrange a time to have the test. You can also ask for a new appointment if you fail to, or can no longer, attend your appointment.
